Rudolf Merkner was born on October 14, 1972 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He is a writer and producer, known for Vyprávěj (2009), Bobule (2008) and Rafťáci (2006). He has been married to Jana Bernásková since 2012. They have two children.

After his wife’s death, 80‑year‑old Vavřinec Novotný feels alone and estranged from his sprawling family.
