José Mauricio Odremán Nieto (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, October 2, 1926 - Caracas, July 13, 2004), better known as Mauricio Odremán, was a Venezuelan writer, poet, visual artist, and filmmaker, known for his postmodern and New Age fantasy and science fiction works.

Murphy is the sole survivor of his crew, that has been massacred by a German U-Boat in the closing days of World War II. Aurora is a humble and warm-hearted young woman from Chichiriviche who, upon learning that her father is burdened with a heavy debt after buying a new boat for his work as a fisherman, decides to migrate to Caracas with her godfather, Simón, to try her luck as a singer.
