Big Breadwinner Hog is a British television thriller serial devised by Robin Chapman, produced by Granada TV and transmitted in eight parts, starting at 9.00pm on 11 April 1969 on the ITV network. It portrayed the ruthless rise through the criminal underworld of the trendy young London gangster Hogarth. He exploits the resources of a declining gangster, Ryan, to take over the dominant crime syndicate Scot-Yanks, controlled by the equally ruthless and manipulative Lennox. The key to Hogarth's success is knowledge of a murder arranged by Lennox, of which there is a crucial witness, Ackerman, a one-time private eye who has been blackmailed into working for Scot-Yanks, and bitterly resents Lennox as a consequence.

Overview: An odious, arrogant young thug and his gang force a local gangster to pay for some brass loot he'd stolen earlier. Then the older gang catches them and beats them. A troubled hit man working for a large criminal network intervenes.
Hogarth Can Do Better (Episode 2)

Overview: Gould is in hospital after Hog through acid in his face. Lennox is forced to delays his break out for two weeks so Ackerman has to keep his daughter safe. Izzard and Pritchard have Hog cornered but do nothing. Hog plans a jewellery heist.
Improving, But He Must Not Flout Authority... (Episode 3)

Overview: Hog's diamond robbery is a success. Lennox wants to set up Ackerman in the murder suicide of Moira. When Cardno suddenly defects to Singleton, Moira kills both to save Ackerman. The pair now find themselves on the run from Lennox and Hog.
Immature, Unsatisfactory Work... (Episode 4)

Overview: Izzard defects to Hog and he begins making plans to move on Ryan but he botches his attack. From his hospital bed, Gould is makes plans but Ryan's has no intention of breaking him out. While Ackerman is out, Moira is kidnapped by Lennox.
Hogarth Accepts Responsibility (Episode 5)

Overview: Grange is shot and tortured by Ryan and gives up Hogs plans. Izzard warns Hog to retreat from a Ryan. Ackerman rescues Moira from Lennox but shoots his grandmother by accident. Police question Lennox about the death of two of his gang.
Self-Discipline Is Its Own Reward (Episode 6)

Overview: Hog captures Ryan and takes his territory. He meets Lennox and agrees to get Gould out of jail in return for the deaths of Ackerman and Moira. Det. Supt. Nicholson takes Moira in has a witness but she shot on the way to police station.
Hogarth Cannot Rest on His Laurels (Episode 7)

Overview: Ackerman shoots Greenwood in the arm escaping from Lennox. Hog offers Ackerman the chance to get even with Lennox, for Moria's death. Grange turns on Ryan and kills him. Hog puts a plan together to get Gould out of prison when he is moved.
A Credit to Us All (Episode 8)
Air date: 1969-05-30
Overview: Hogg successfully gets Gould out of jail but wants to use him has leverage. Lennox surrounds Hogg's garage, getting, both, Gould and Izzard but still wants Ackerman. Police force Lennox to retreat so he kills Gould but Ackerman is waiting.
